WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — U.S. Senator Jim Justice says he is “100 percent” considering a run for governor in 2028.
Justice said so responding to a question during an appearance Thursday on MetroNews “Talkline” which was broadcasting live from the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce Business Summit at The Greenbrier.
Justice explained what his consideration is based on.
“The considering all centers around just one thing—if we were to ask people in that room (Business Summit), ‘Have we lost our spark?’ A lot of people in that room would say that we have,” Justice said.
Justice said that’s disappointing.
“You know how hard we’ve worked (during his two terms as governor),” he said.
Justice was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2024 and his term doesn’t end until 2030. A possible 2028 run for governor has been rumored and reported by some national outlets.
He said on “Talkline” Thursday his decision woud not linger.
“I’m not going to tease around with people, that’s awful to do. That’s not my style,” Jusice said. “We’ll make a decision and make it quickly.”
Justice also said it’s an honor to serve in the U.S. Senate but it’s not easy.
“A lot of times you’re kind of shoved to the back and think you should know your place and we’re going to throw you some crumbs but the meat and potatoes go to other places, well that’s not right,” Justice said.
He said he enjoys working with fellow Senator Shelley Moore Capito. He said the two are “joined at the hip working as hard as we can.”
Justice indicated he wants current Gov. Patrick Morrisey to make goodness happen in the state.
“As far as Patrick and everybody here, I hope they knock it out of the park and they knock it out of the park every single day but we’ll make a decision and we’ll make a decision real soon,” Justice said.
