Vandalia Health Mon Harrison Neighborhood Hospital set to open

CHARLES POINTE, W.Va. — The new $30 million Vandalia Health Mon Harrison Neighborhood Hospital is set to open at the end of the month, bringing new medical options for services to a growing part of the state.

Dr. Chris Edwards

Charles Pointe is a 1,700-acre planned development minutes away from the North Central West Virginia Airport directly off I-79 and accessible via Route 279. The mixed-use development has hospitality, sports and recreation, commercial, retail, residential living, and now a new hospital.

Vandalia Health Chief Administration Officer Dr. Christopher Edwards said the 40,000-square-foot facility is nearly identical to the Vandalia Health Mon Marion Neighborhood Hospital. That facility came online following the closure of the Fairmont Medical Center and has been extremely popular in the community, Edwards said.

“It’s almost identical,” Edwards said. “So, we’re very excited to be able to open up in Harrison County, and it’s going to be almost exactly the same footprint.”

The first floor of the new Mon Harrison Neighborhood Hospital will have an emergency room, board-certified physicians, and comprehensive inpatient care, including private inpatient rooms. The facility will offer a wide range of inpatient and outpatient treatment and care.

“It’s going to have nine emergency room beds, 10 in patient beds, outpatient radiology including CT and X-ray, MRI, and labs for both inpatient and outpatient,” Edwards said.

Patients will have access to telehealth at the facility and all of the specialty care and services offered across the health system. Edwards said the brief history of the Mon Marion Neighborhood Hospital has proven the small-format model can offer the same type of care offered at larger hospitals.

“To be able to provide those telehealth hubs so that folks get to see the specialist without making that travel is exceptionally important in the state of West Virginia,” Edwards said.

He said the small-format concept facility in Marion County now has one of the fastest emergency rooms in the country. Statistics show the average wait time in the country is about 163 minutes, compared to about 60 minutes in White Hall.

“We’ve had tremendous success here and year-over-year growth,” Edwards said. “Tremendous community support from White Hall, Fairmont, and greater Marion County.”

The facility in White Hall will celebrate the fifth anniversary of Operations on Dec. 14, according to Edwards. The ribbon cutting for the Vandalia Health Mon Harrison Hospital will be Sept. 22, and that new hospital will begin operations Sept.29.

“In December it will be our five-year anniversary here in White Hall with the Vandalia Health Marion Neighborhood Hospital, and now to expand to Harrison County with the quality of care Mon is known for is exciting for the community,” Edwards said.
