State Public Service Commission approves Fayette County utilities’ $13 million sale to West Virginia-American Water

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Public Service Commission has approved the West Virginia-American Water Company’s $13 million purchase of three financially troubled utilities in Fayette County.

The Armstrong Public Service District, Kanawha Falls Public Service District, and Page-Kincaid Public Service District must be dissolved by the Fayette County Commission to finalize the transaction. According to the PSC, the Fayette County Commission and West Virginia-American Water (WVAWC) filed an agreement for the utilities to change hands on August 21.

Rates will adjust to WVAWC standard through a phased process, the PSC release said, over the next three years.

A stipulation with the agreement is for WVAWC to also address a persistent sewage leaking problem at Cannelton Hollow, according to the PSC.
