WELLSBURG, W.Va. — Former Brooke County High School Principal Eric James has posted bond and is now on home confinement.
James, 53, was arrested in early September for allegedly planting hidden cameras in girls’ dressing rooms at the school. The discovery led to his termination by the Brooke County Board of Education ten days ago.
James is charged with three counts of wiretapping and one count of breaking and entering a non-residence.
James appeared in Brooke County Circuit Court on Monday. His attorney asked Magistrate Matthew Hardy to lower James’ $200,000 cash bond to $25,000, but that request was denied. Hardy did allow the bond to be switched to surety.
Because the bond became surety and James posted 10 percent of the $200,000 bond, he was released to be held on house arrest on Wednesday. He’ll be GPS monitored and will not be permitted to go to Brooke County Schools properties, nor is he allowed to contact children.
A grand jury will review James’ case. The jury next meets on November 2.
