Gas leak under investigation at the Aurora School, students dismissed

AURORA, W.Va. — Students at the Aurora School in Preston County were diverted to an approved evacuation site prior to the start of the school day Thursday.

At 7:35 a.m. a natural gas odor was detected in the kitchen area of the school prior to students arriving. Buses were directed to transport the students to the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department while first responders assess the situation.

Students from the Aurora School were dismissed from the fire department at 10 a.m.

First responders and gas company workers are on the scene.
