Video lottery machines staying off for now for Parkersburg-based operator

CHESTER, W.Va. — A Parkersburg-based limited video lottery operator has yet to get required information in to the West Virginia Lottery for relicensing.

The 172 limited video lottery machines at 26 retail locations operated by Trans-Allegheny Enterprises remain turned off.

The state Lottery Commission received an update on the situation at its meeting held Wednesday morning at Mountaineer Racetrack & Casino in Chester.

The commission made the decision at its Sept. 30 meeting not to relicense Trans-Allegheny because the company had missed the relicensing deadline.

Trans-Allegheny Chief Officer Tom Fittro told the commission Wednesday his company has obtained two of the three things the commission requires.

“The tax return is completed, filed with tax (WV Tax Department), and we have a letter of good standing with tax,” Fittro said. “Now we’re just trying to get our compiled financial statements done.”

Fittro, who told the commission last month he was late because he had been sick, said the process has most recently been held up by accounting firms.

“We contracted with two different accounting companies to get these financial statements completed and obviously we want to get this all done post-haste,” Fittro said. “This has not been a pleasant experience.”

Fittro expressed concern last month that several jobs were tied to the video lottery machines he operates.

Lottery Commission Chairman Ken Greear said acting Lottery Director David Bradley would have the authority to relicense Trans-Allegheny before the November Lottery Commission meeting if the final financial documents come in and check out okay.

The annual licenses for LVL operators run from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30.
