Marshall Marathon set for Sunday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The annual Marshall University Marathon is scheduled for Sunday in Huntington.

The marathon, which usually averages around 1,800 participants, is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. The course remains open until 1 p.m.

“Motorists should anticipate traffic delays and disruptions along the race route throughout the morning,” a news release from the City of Huntington said. “The City’s Street Department will post no-parking signs along the designated marathon route ahead of the event. Vehicles parked in posted no-parking areas along the marathon route on Sunday morning will be towed. Residents are encouraged to pay close attention to posted signage and move their vehicles accordingly.”

The course begins on 3rd Avenue next to Joan C. Edwards Stadium, runs through the downtown, along the Ohio River and then through Ritter Park before returning to the stadium. The course ends at the 50-yard line.

The City of Huntington said it appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as the community welcomes runners and visitors from the region and several states.
