Defensive end removed from WVU roster after drug arrest

West Virginia defensive end Larry Jefferson (90) pressures Maryland quarterback Caleb Rowe during the Mountaineers’ win in 2015 in Morgantown, W.Va.

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — West Virginia defensive end Larry Jefferson Jr., arrested Tuesday and charged with possession of marijuana and cocaine, was removed from the school’s roster.

The 23-year old Jefferson was arrested Tuesday morning in Morgantown carrying small amounts of marijuana and cocaine according to a criminal complaint. Jefferson was stopped on Clay Street as officers were investigating a brandishing incident at South University Plaza.

He was arraigned in Monongalia County Magistrate Court with bond set at $2,500.

Jefferson’s name and player page were taken down from WVU’s online roster page by Wednesday.

After appearing in nine games last season and making two tackles, Jefferson was suspended from spring drills for violating team rules.

Jefferson, native of Savannah Park, Ga., was a 2015 junior college transfer from Itawamba (Miss.) Community College.
