HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall University’s medical school has received the maximum time of accreditation a school can receive.
The Liaison Committee on Medical Education awarded the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine eight years of accreditation. This comes following a two-year period in which faculty, staff and students took part in a self-study; officials also visited the school in the spring for three days.
“This is a tremendous achievement for a school of medicine,” said Dr. Joseph Shapiro, the school’s dean. “The LCME continues to raise the bar for medical education, and I am so pleased with how our school has worked to meet and exceed those benchmarks.”
The process happened while the school was preparing to revise its education curriculum, which will be implemented in the 2020-2021 academic year.
