MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Bill and Bonnie Stubblefield want to see litter in Berkeley County stop.
They recently took a big step towards seeing that happen when they created a sizable fund with the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation to address the problem.
The Campaign Against Litter Fund will come a long way, foundation executive director Michael Whalton said.
“It’s called the ‘Campaign Against Litter Fund’, and they’ve contributed $500,000 to set this fund up,” Whalton said. “We’re going to grow that to hopefully $1 million in five years.”
Whalton says the group that was founded by Stubblefield and several others will be financed through the endowed fund to operate the program.
“We’re going to be working with Berkeley Community Pride,” Whalton said. “In establishing a really workable program to address road side litter in Berkeley County.”
Grants will be awarded to nonprofit groups that commit to cleaning up trash along a roadway one day a week every week for seven months of the year.
