WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — A Greenbrier County teacher was arrested after she allegedly solicited and obtained drugs from a student.
Susan Surber, 53, of White Sulphur Springs, was taken into custody Monday. Surber, who is a teacher at Greenbrier East High School, is accused of exchanging illegal prescription pills for marijuana and of soliciting the assistance of a student to obtain the marijuana. Investigators with the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department said there was no indication that any transactions occurred on school property.
Surber was charged with delivery of a controlled substance, and later was released on bond. Additional charges are pending.
The Greenbrier County School Superintendent issued a statement, in which he said, “(P)ersonnel laws that govern school employees prevent the school system from addressing the status of the employee other than to state that the employee is not currently in the classroom and will not be returning to the classroom. To respond further could compromise the employee’s due process rights in the event adverse action is taken.”
