HEPC launches new financial aid website for W.Va. students

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission has launched a new website to help students and families navigate financial aid to pay for college.

It’s a partnership with the Community and Technical College System called “College for West Virginia.”

Chancellor Dr. Sarah Armstrong Tucker said the rebranded website, CFWV.com and its sister site CollegeforWV.com, is part of an effort to expand and revamp its online presence to make it easier West Virginia students to explore their college planning programs.

“We were hearing from students that they really needed a site that was laser focused on financial aid,” Tucker told the state Board of Education on Wednesday.

Tucker said there is a path to college for every student regardless of their background, age, location or situation and that they want families to know that.

“Our Legislature has been incredibly generous. We have more than $100 million that goes out to scholarships from the state to our students and our students don’t know enough about them,” she said.

The HEPC is also launching a video campaign called “Go from Dreaming to Achieving” that highlights the importance of attending college.

Tucker said she and state Superintendent of Schools Clayton Burch are urging a path forward to higher education in all areas.

“I don’t think either one of us cares if a student goes into a pathway like a career tech ed center, if they go into the trades, if they go to a community college. One is not better than the other,” she said.
