Woman dies after being struck by vehicle near Marshall campus

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A 22-year-old woman died after being struck by an SUV near the Marshall University campus Thursday afternoon.

Huntington police said the deadly collision occurred at around 12:15 as the woman was crossing Third Avenue close to 18th Street and the Henderson Center. The busy four-lane street cuts right through the Marshall campus.

There was no initial word if the victim had a connection to the university. Huntington police said there were no drugs or alcohol involved.

An investigation into the collision is underway.

The woman’s name is being withheld pending notification of family members.
