Groh sworn-in as Jefferson County prosecutor

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — Following the resignation of Jefferson County Prosecutor Matt Harvey this week, his successor was sworn in Wednesday, the same day Harvey tendered his resignation as he moves to his new position as US Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia.

Stephen Groh has worked for the prosecutor’s office for a number of years, most recently as an assistant prosecuting attorney.

Jefferson County Commission President Pasha Majdi said Groh will “step in on a temporary basis until the commission selects a replacement through the next election.”

Groh was sworn in at the historic Jefferson County Courthouse by Chief Circuit Judge David Hammer.

Harvey was confirmed to his new position this week, and Majdi said the commission had already voted on a transition plan ahead of Wednesday’s resignation by Harvey.

Groh previously served as an assistant prosecutor in Berkeley County.

He is a 1993 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law. He is married to U.S. District Judge Gina Groh.
