RIPLEY, W.Va. — Jackson County Sheriff Ross Mellinger said a local woman now facing charges of threatening to kill President Donald Trump was doing much more than venting her political frustrations on Facebook.
“This is what you get whenever you saddle up on the horse of stupidity and you have to be prepared for what follows that,” said the Sheriff on MetroNews Midday.
Morgan Morrow, 39, of Ripley is now jailed. Mellinger said she made no attempt to hide the fact she had put out numerous ideas of why and how to kill the President and his followers. The incidents spanned multiple social media platforms, all with the same theme, death to Trump and his supporters.
“She was encouraging anyone with a terminal illness to seek out a sniper rifle and take on this task, somebody who is short for this world is what she was intending. Then she outlined on other platforms how all followers and voters for the President should be lined up and executed as well,” he said.
Morrow is not originally from Jackson County. According to Mellinger she came to the area from North Dakota and is a public librarian in Jackson County.
“She’s around a lot of children and obviously has some influence herself. When you have this type of hatred on your agenda and you’re around kids, that’s a problem,” Mellinger said.
According to investigators, Morrow didn’t appear to have intentions on her own. But she was adamant the assassination was necessary and wasn’t shy about sharing her thoughts with anybody including investigators after she was in custody.
“If you look at the interview after she was detained, she was very proud of her work. She didn’t deny any of it and outlined multiple reasons why she thinks the President should be assassinated,” said Mellinger.
