GRAFTON, W.Va. — The second person charged in the starvation death of an 11-year-old in Taylor County has been arraigned and is being held without bond.
Aaron Moran, 42, of Grafton, is the father of Miana Morgan, who died a year ago this month.
Taylor County Prosecutor John Bord said Moran was arraigned Monday on one count of murder by a parent or guardian and one count of neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
“It’s a two-count indictment,” Bord said. “They asked for bond and they rejected any bond because of the nature of the case.”
Miana Moran was found during a welfare check before her death with head lice, bones protruding from skin, a yellow tint to her skin, and multiple cuts and bruises. Reports indicate CPS workers were in the home days before the her death. Moran’s primary caregiver, Shannon Robinson, 51, also of Grafton, has also been charged with murder and neglect.
“Right now we’re in the process of getting all of the discovery to Mr. Michaels, the attorney for Aaron Moran,” Bord said. “We should have that completed within a day or two.”
Bord said in addition to the state investigation, his office continues to review the facts available, leaving the door open for new indictments or additional charges.
“The investigations are still ongoing,” Board said. “We are not done yet—we are not finished.”
Robinson and Moran are currently scheduled to stand trial separately but that could change, Bord said.
“Right now at this point in time we’re keeping the cases separate,” Bord said. “Until we see where it’s headed, but right now they are separate.”
