Clarksburg flight to Dulles makes emergency landing

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A regional jet that took off from the North Central West Virginia Airport (CKB) had to make an emergency landing in Washington D.C. due to mechanical issues.

SkyWest Flight 5022 was scheduled to depart CKB at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday but was delayed so workers could check some mechanical issues.

After the brief delay the aircraft took-off bound for Dulles International Airport (IAD).

About halfway into the flight the pilot notified the passengers they needed to make an emergency landing. Shortly after the announcement was made the oxygen masks dropped from the ceiling and the smell of smoke just started to fill the cabin.

The plane landed safely at Dulles. There was no initial word on what caused the mechanical issues.
