SPRING MILLS, W.Va. — Several people were attacked by a cat last week in the Spring Mills area. Turns out the cat had rabies.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Division responded to multiple feline attacks occurring on June 2 to 3, 2026, in the area of Clendenin Drive and Eveningstar Lane in the Spring Mills area of Berkeley County.
Several individuals were attacked by the same feline and received medical treatment for injuries sustained during the incidents. The animal was subsequently captured by Animal Control Officer Wilcox and submitted for rabies testing.
Test results have confirmed that the feline was positive for rabies. As of June 9, 2026, four victims have contacted and followed up with the local health department regarding potential exposure.
“Anyone who was scratched, bitten, or otherwise had physical contact with this feline in the Spring Mills area is strongly encouraged to contact their healthcare provider and the local health department as soon as possible to discuss potential rabies exposure and the need for post-exposure treatment,” a press release from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said.
