CHARLESTON, W.Va. — There’s a West Virginia Day celebration event at the state Capitol Complex Saturday to recognize 163 years of the Mountain State.
The state Department of Tourism announced in a release that the event will be free of charge, family friendly, and includes many activities that detail the history of the state.
Activities include:
– A scavenger hunt from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the West Virginia State Museum.
– Education-centered events from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. inside the state Culture Center in the Museum Education Room.
– Guided tours of the state Capitol building from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Additionally, the state Department of Tourism said the official America 250 “Semiquincentennial Quilt” will be showcased inside the West Virginia Culture Center at noon. The unveiling will take place in the Great Hall. The quilt highlights the part West Virginia has played in the 250 years of the United States.
Food and drink will be offered after the quilt unveiling as well, while supplies last. The West Virginia Department of Tourism said West Virginia hot dogs, lemonade, and birthday cake will be served from 12 to 2 p.m. inside the West Virginia Culture Center.
Free parking will also be available for attendees, in the State Capitol Parking Garage and at Laidley Field.
