Detroit man sentenced for Fayette County drug charges

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. — A Detroit man is set to spend up to 15 years behind bars after being sentenced for illegal drug possession.

Donovan Phillips (WVRJA)

The Fayette County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said Donovan Phillips, 21, of Detroit, Michigan, was sentenced this week.

Phillips was driving a vehicle without a seatbelt in June 2025, according to police. After pulling Phillips over, authorities then discovered he was wanted in Michigan.

Police said they found two packages of illegal drugs containing 102 grams of fentanyl in Phillips’ pocket. Phillips pleaded guilty in December to the charge.

The Fayette County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said Phillips failed to complete a Youthful Offender Treatment Program, which led to this sentence.

Phillips will be eligible for parole in three years.
