Pennsylvania woman charged after taking injured child from Preston County campground

BRUCETON MILLS, W.Va. — A Pennsylvania woman is facing multiple charges after police allege she drove from West Virginia to Pennsylvania with an unresponsive child in her car.

West Virginia State Police said troopers responded to Big Bear Lake Camplands near Bruceton Mills Monday afternoon on a report from a witness that said a woman was seen carrying an unresponsive young girl to a vehicle before leaving the area.

Just after 4 p.m., Pennsylvania State Police were alerted to the vehicle type by Preston County authorities and and began searching around the Belle Vernon and Uniontown areas. Police were able to locate the vehicle in Fayette County, Pennsylvania.

Troopers stopped the vehicle and said they observed an unresponsive eight-year-old girl in the back seat of the vehicle with what appeared to be severe physical injuries. The child was immediately removed and transported to Uniontown Hospital then flown to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown where she remains in critical condition on life support.

Unconfirmed reports indicate the girl may have ingested bleach during her stay in Preston County.

The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Lisa Lynn Miller, 60, of Dawson, Pennsylvania. She was taken into custody at the scene.

The investigation alleges the child was assaulted and restrained while traveling from West Virginia to Pennsylvania and Miller failed to seek medical treatment.

Miller has been charged in Pennsylvania with endangering the welfare of children and is being held in the Fayette County Prison with no bail.

State police in Pennsylvania and West Virginia continue their investigation and additional charges are possible.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Pennsylvania State Police in Uniontown at 724-439-7111.
