Woman charged with attempted murder following campsite shooting

PICKENS, W.Va. — State police have charged a Philippi woman with attempted murder after troopers said she shot another woman during an altercation at a campsite on Turkey Bone Road.

A witness told troopers he and the victim were camping when Regina Collette, 45, and the witness’s brother approached them aggressively causing the fight between the two women.

The witness said Collette got a firearm from nearby vehicle and pointed it at the victim’s face and shot her.

Collette told troopers the victim was punching her and threatening to kill her before she fired the gun. Another witness refuted that claim and told troopers he saw Collette standing when she retrieved the weapon and shot the victim.

Troopers said when they arrived Collette appeared to be drifting in and out of consciousness.

The victim was transported by car to meet EMTs.

Collette is currently being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $100,000 cash only bond.
