MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Berkeley County Solid Waste Authority is hosting a public hearing related to the former Entsorga waste-to-fuel plant in Martinsburg.
BCSWA announced the hearing is set for Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Office of the Berkeley County Solid Waste Authority located at 19 Recovery Way.
The purpose of the public hearing is to solicit written and oral comment from the general public concerning the application for certificate of site approval from BurCell Martinsburg, LLC.
BurCell is a Georgia-based company that aims to “develop the old Enstorga facility into a new state-of-the-art Mixed Waste Processing Facility.
Those interested are encouraged to attend and can submit both written and oral comments.
Entsorga shuttered the doors at the Martinsburg plant in 2022. Since then, trash inside the giant bins inside the facility have caught fire and the building has sat largely idle as Solid Waste Authority leaders sought to find an operator that could get it going again.
All comments received at the public hearing will be recorded and considered. Copies of the application for certificate of site approval can be viewed during normal business hours at Berkeley County SWA office. An electronic copy is available at www.berkeleycountyrecycling.com
The public comment period will extend 10 days beyond the date of the public hearing for the continued submission of written comments.
