CHARLESTON, W.Va. — United Bank is deepening its roots in West Virginia with the opening of its new Charleston Operations Center on Wednesday.
The new hub brings together United employees across several departments to support the company’s entire footprint across eight states.
“It’s so important to us to be West Virginia’s bank, and really no company has been serving the state and its people longer than United, and we remain committed to and passionate about making West Virginia a great place to do business and a great place to work and even better place for our customers and our employees,” United Bank Regional President D.F. Mock said.
A ribbon cutting brought together United Bank brass with local leadership, including Charleston Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin and Kanawha County Commissioner Natalie Tennant. Mock believes this is the next big step in supporting United’s employees in West Virginia.
“A third of our workforce is in the state of West Virginia, and one of our highest concentrations of our employees is right here in the Kanawha Valley region, and the overwhelming majority is here in our operations center,” he said.
That employee support is designed to trickle down to customers with a streamlined approach. Leadership hopes for a greater customer experience thanks to the new facility’s assets.
“When team members thrive, so do our customers and so does business so that ongoing commitment to our employees just looking for a better space supports our team’s needs and positions us for that future growth,” Mock said.
In the new space, United employees can work more directly with one another and solve problems across departments. With banking technology making significant progress in recent years, the environment is designed to allow for more interaction and engagement.
“We fostered an open environment where people are mingling with each other throughout the day, and the more we focus on having an engaged and motivated employee base, the better that shows out in how we support the rest of the company,” United Bank Director of Operations Alan Searles said.
Searles and Mock both believe that the Charleston Operations Center is a milestone in United’s continued service of West Virginians. As the offices leave plenty of room to grow, this step seems to only be the beginning.
“We have room for growth in this building. We have room for growth in the spots that we’ve leased. There’s plenty of other space in this building. It’s right in the center of town, and I feel like we can attract more talent here. I think we all in West Virginia are focused on keeping talent at home, and we want to provide a good opportunity for people to come work for United and stay,” Searles said.
