Joshua Deel, 39, of Lesage, was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder for the July 21 deaths of his ex-wife Shawn Deel, 39, and her daughter Abigaile Sloan, 18, and son Dekota Sloan, 16. He has not yet been indicted by a Cabell County grand jury.

Attorneys for Deel asked for bond to be set during a hearing Thursday. Judge David Amsbary denied that request.

Deputies responded to the Deel residence at around 5 a.m. on July 21, discovering three people stabbed to death and Joshua Deel also suffering from injuries. He was initially hospitalized, then after investigators cased the scene and questioned witnesses, he was charged with the three killings.

Deel remains in the Western Regional Jail.
