Huntington Fire Department focused on safe charging for Fire Prevention Week

HUNTINGTON, W.Va – The Huntington Fire Department is partnering with the National Fire Protection Association for Fire Prevention Week through this Saturday.

The week’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower”, which focuses on steps that can be taken to safely charge devices with lithium-ion batteries. Those devices include phones, tablets, laptops, tools, toys, e-bikes, scooters, and more.

Those batteries can overheat, catch fire, and even explode if damaged or charged improperly. HFD’s tips include using the correct charger, charging on a hard, flat surface, knowing warning signs, unplugging devices when fully charged, and taking extra caution with large batteries.

The Huntington Fire Department is hosting its annual Fire Prevention Week Parade on Monday night at 7 p.m. on 4th Avenue from 12th Street to 8th Street.
