‘Skin-related health concern’ forcing closure of Wyoming County schools

PINEVILLE, W.Va. — All Wyoming County schools will be closed Tuesday as officials respond to an ongoing skin-related health concern.

The Wyoming County Board of Education said school facilities will undergo a thorough deep cleaning.

Wyoming East and Westside high schools will remain closed beyond Tuesday, pending guidance from the county health department and completion of cleaning by ServPro, school district officials said.

All extracurricular activities countywide were canceled Monday and will be again Tuesday, including practices and games.

Activities at Wyoming East and Westside remain suspended until further notice.

Officials said no specific skin infection has been officially diagnosed. The situation will be reevaluated after Tuesday, with more information released as it becomes available.

The school district released the following information on Facebook:

At this time, Wyoming County Schools has not received an official diagnosis identifying the specific type of skin infection involved. We understand there may be speculation within the community, but we want to be careful to share only information that has been confirmed by the appropriate health officials.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority. We understand that these closures and cancellations create an inconvenience for our families, and we sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation as we take these additional precautions.
