South Charleston police put down pit bulls after they killed other dogs and came at officer

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Police in South Charleston report two pit bulls were shot and killed by an officer and a third pit bull was euthanized after the dogs attacked and killed two smaller dogs in a fenced yard Thursday night.

Police said it happened at a residence in the 300 block of Henson Avenue. Officers were dispatched to the scene after the attack and confirmed two dogs were dead.

“Officers requested assistance from the South Charleston Humane officer,” information from SCPD said. “While officers were investigating the matter, two of the three pitt bulls attempted to attack an officer. The officer attempted to back away from the dogs but he was forced to shoot them both.”

The third pit bull was taken from the scene and later euthanized.

South Charleston police said the owner of the dogs was ticketed for violating the city’s vicious animal ordinance.
