MADISON, W.Va. — Opening statements are scheduled for Wednesday afternoon in the trial of a Boone County woman charged in the April 2024 death of her granddaughter.
Boone County prosecutors and attorneys representing Donna Stone were able to choose a jury Tuesday to hear the highly-publicized case.
Stone is charged in the death of 14-year-old Kyneddi Miller who was described as being emaciated in a skeletol state when she was found by state police troopers in her Morrisvale home.
Stone along with her husband Jerry Stone and the girl’s mother, Julie Miller were all charged. Julie Miller pleaded guilty earlier this year to child abuse by a parent causing death. She was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison. Jerry Stone was found to be mentally incompetent to stand trial.
Donna Stone is charged with murder by a parent, guardian or custodian by refusal or failure to provide necessities and child neglect resulting in death.
The jury is made up of 10 women and two men. There were also two alternates chosen.
Opening statements are scheduled to begin Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
The trial could last into early next week in Boone County Circuit Court.
