WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — An investigation is underway into alleged financial misconduct involving a former Mingo County Schools employee.

The school district announced Thursday afternoon that it is “aware of allegations” made against an ex-employee. The Mingo County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that state police arrested former Burch PreK-8 Secretary Angela Fleming and charged her with two counts of misdemeanor embezzlement and one count of computer fraud. Deputies said the charges stem from “missing funds” when Fleming worked at Burch.
“We take these allegations very seriously and remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of accountability, integrity, and transparency in the management of public resources,” the Mingo County Schools release said. “While we understand the concerns these allegations may raise within our community, we believe it is important to allow the appropriate investigative and legal processes to proceed without speculation or premature conclusions.”
The district went on to add that it’s focused on “responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars” and preserving trust of its students, families, employees, and community.
“As this matter progresses, we will continue to prioritize transparency while respecting the integrity of the investigative process. Because this is an ongoing matter, we will refrain from further comment at this time,” the statement concluded.
